Kenya offers an incredible array of exciting wildlife settings. Just a few hours from Nairobi, Hidden Treasure Africa Safaris will whisk you off to three animal parks in one action-filled day. We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 am and begin your wildlife adventure with possible sightings of lion, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, leopard, and hippo.
Also, impala, dik-dik, and countless bird species, including maybe flamingos. Your day will feature a wildlife game viewing drive safari, a boat safari, and the opportunity to enjoy a walking safari past grazing giraffes, zebra, and birds like cormorants and pelicans.
So, get your binoculars, camera, and safari hat. This is going to be one action-filled day. We’ll head out early and stop for breakfast on the way to our first park, Lake Nakuru.
Lake Nakuru National Park
If there is one word that describes Lake Nakuru National Park, it’s variety. Variety in its landforms – rocky escarpments, thick acacia forests, waterfalls, and, of course, the lake itself. And in what other park can you spot such diverse wildlife like lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and… few flamingoes?
This is a beautiful park known for its favorite animal spotting viewpoints like Lion Hill and Out of Africa where you may also see baboons, waterbuck, cheetahs, rare endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, and birds – over 400 species.
We’ll take a game-viewing safari on Lake Nakuru past hippos, storks, pelicans, and sometimes hordes of brilliant pink flamingos feeding on the algae in the saline lake.
Another special feature of the park you won’t want to miss is the Rhino Sanctuary. The park hosts more than 25 endangered black rhinos and about 70 white rhinos. Your morning here will be filled with an engaging procession of wildlife.
The Park has Kenya’s largest population of rhinos. The surface of Lake Nakuru occupies about a third of the park. It supports a dense bloom of the blue-green Cyanophyte Spirulina platensis from which it derives its color and is a food source for flamingos.
Attractions
- Flamingoes (Greater and Lesser-numbers have reduced in the recent past due to a rise in water levels of as much as 2 meters to a high last experienced over 60 years ago. As water levels increase, the salinity of the water is reduced, which in turn reduces the abundance of algae) and other water birds including a variety of terrestrial birds numbering about 450 species in total.
- Mammals: 56 different species including white rhinos, waterbuck etc.
- Rare endangered Rothschild’s giraffe
- Viewpoints: Lion Hill, Baboon Cliff, and Out of Africa
- Hills: Enasoit, Honeymoon, Lion hill ridge etc
- Waterfalls: Makalia.
- Unique vegetation: About 550 different plant species including the unique and biggest euphorbia forest in Africa, Picturesque landscape, and yellow acacia woodlands.
- Cycle with Rhino event every September yearly
Lake Naivasha
Our tour takes us next to Lake Naivasha, another Rift Valley lake area that features acacia forest, dormant volcanoes, dramatic gorges, and a beautiful freshwater lake. We’ll safari across this picturesque body of water, a known drinking hole for buffalo, zebra, eland, impala, and waterbuck. Look out for hippos as you sail by these massive creatures taking a dip in the lake.
The birdlife is also active here and you can spot eagles, buzzards, weavers, firefinches, pelicans, kingfishers, and more than 450 other birdlife species. Stepping into the forest you may come upon zebra and giraffe grazing about.
You’ll also get to graze at the buffet lunch served at your Lake Naivasha stop. But there’s still more to see on this busy tour.
Crescent Island Game Sanctuary
Our next stop is a private island sanctuary called Crescent Island Game Sanctuary where we will take a guided walking safari. Crescent Island is on the shores of Lake Naivasha – this beautiful park is a secret hidden from most tourists. But not us!
Our walking safari will take us past grazing hippos, giraffes, and zebra. You can’t get much nearer to the wildlife than on this up-close, hands-on outing.
This Hidden Treasure Africa Safaris’ full-day tour is a fun, easy way to experience the wonderful variety of Kenya’s wildlife. You’ll have tons of photo opportunities in these three dramatic parks, and we’ll have you back at your hotel by 7:00 pm with lots to talk about!
Your Guide. For your journey, you’ll be guided, hosted, and looked after by your experienced driver/guide.
Transportation between parks and game viewing will be in a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep – this vehicle is the safari standard with its higher seating and rugged all-wheel drive.
