Lake Manyara National Park Day Tour

A Most Colorful Africa Safari

Starting from/returning to your Arusha area hotel, private residence, or the airport. We’ll pick you up at 7:00 am for a full-day safari in the comfort of a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep.

Compact but so inviting, Ernest Hemingway called it, “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. A trip to Lake Manyara National Park is a perfect one-day getaway to a beautiful landscape filled with color and some very unusual wildlife.

Imagine great flocks of pink flamingoes nestled by the shore of a blue alkaline lake. And above, in the acacia branches overhead, the sight of lions! Yes, the park is home to some very unique tree-climbing lions not found elsewhere.

You would be mistaken to think that a compact park like Manyara doesn’t offer sightings of Africa’s great variety of wildlife. Because your day trip here will take you close to elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, impala, blue monkeys, leopards, and warthogs. And if you like baboons, you’ve come to the right place – Lake Manyara is home to perhaps the largest number of baboons in Africa.

The Birds of Manyara

Of course, the marquee species of birdlife here are the thousands of pink flamingoes feeding along the lake’s shoreline but the park also hosts over 390 types of avian life. There’s a rich population of pelicans moving amongst the signature flamingoes. And you’re certain to spot egrets, cormorants, storks, spoonbills, and other waders on the lake’s alkaline waters.

But the park’s deep green forests will also present lots of winged surprises like crowned eagles, guinea fowl, silvery cheeked hornbills.

More Special Aspects

You probably don’t think about butterflies when picturing your safari but you should because their color and motion add so much to the natural environment. There are over 180 species of these ephemeral creatures spiriting about.

Not all parks allow you to step from your Jeep and get close up to the flora and fauna but here at Manyara, you can enjoy walking safaris for a more immediate experience.

A visit to the park’s northern end will bring us to an unexpected hippo pool and several hot springs. This is a great place to enjoy lunch while watching the hippos swim about.

Want to gaze down upon the park and its busy wildlife from a canopy-high level? You can ascend Tanzania’s first raised treetop walkway and experience the forests and wildlife below from an exciting perspective.
