You’ll arrive in each park in time for an afternoon exploration, followed by a full day of unlimited game drives, and then wrapping up with morning game drives on your third day. And then it’s onto the next amazing African reserve!

A World Of Migrating Wildlife

The most incredible animal migration on the planet moves through our first three parks. We’ll first head to Kenya’s most popular park, the Masai Mara, home to a world of numerous predators – lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, crocodiles, and more.

Why so many?

They are lying in wait for the millions of grazers – zebras, wildebeests, gazelle – crossing into the park over the Mara River, on their timeless trek for survival. It’s called the Great Migration, and it is a spectacle of moving wildlife like no other.

And where are all these grazers coming from? You’ve no doubt heard of this world-renowned reserve, Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. It’s a vast plain of lions, elephants, and uncountable wildebeests. The wildlife migrates from the great Serengeti searching for taller grasses on which to feed. We’ll travel to this second park to discover its over 3,000 lions and 7,000 elephants, in addition to buffalo, African wild dog, impala, baboon, and warthog.

Incredible Ndutu

Perhaps the most fascinating part of the Serengeti is called the Ndutu Area, toward the park’s southern reaches. Ndutu figures importantly in the cycle of the Great Migration, for it is here that these innumerable grazers settle from December through May to give birth to their young.

In these birthing fields, up to half a million newborns drop into the tall, lush grasses of the Ndutu – as many as 8,000 wildebeests, zebra, and gazelle a day! We will have plenty of time here to witness these animal babies taking their first steps into their new world.

Another World

We will leave the vast plains of animal migration for our next stop, entering an incredible universe of wildlife, like no other in Africa. Traveling south we’ll come upon the lush spectacle of the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera in existence.

We’ll descend into this immense ecosystem, cut off from the rest of the continent but home to over 25,000 animals, every species from lions to hippos to flamingoes. Then, we’ll spend the better part of our day exploring this dramatic UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A Mini Migration

But there are more discoveries still to come on this nine-day absolute safari.  You know about the Great Migration from Ndutu to the Serengeti to the Masai Mara. But at our next stop, Tarangire National Park, you may get to witness a smaller migration of thousands of wildebeests, zebra, giraffe, ostrich, and even lions. Most astounding of all: up to 10,000 elephants move through the park from July through October.

As you can see, Africa’s animal migrations touch all aspects of this very complete nine-day safari. Join us in Nairobi as we travel to the best of Kenya and Tanzania, exploring the hordes of wildlife that herd over this incredible pathway to survival.
